Experts to Discuss if "Corruption is Just a Part of Doing Business"

VIENNA, 8 September (UN Information Service) - On 17 September, experts from the private sector and anti-corruption agencies will gather at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) for a panel discussion on the subject "Is corruption just part of doing business?". The discussion will focus on how corruption has contributed to the financial crisis, and what changes are needed in corporate governance and government regulation to strengthen integrity. It will look at how the United Nations Convention against Corruption applies to the private sector. And it will ask if the era of banking secrecy is really over.

The meeting will also launch a report entitled Anti-Corruption Policies and Measures of the Fortune Global 500 produced in cooperation between PricewaterhouseCoopers and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The event will be moderated by Haig Simonian of the Financial Times. Panelists will include the Executive Director of UNODC, Antonio Maria Costa; Senior Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers Austria Friedrich Roedler; Director of the International Press Institute, David Dadge; Associate Director of the World Economic Forum, Michael Pedersen and the Executive Director of the International Chamber of Commerce Austria Maximilian Burger-Scheidlin.

The event will take place in the VIC in room G0545 on 17 September at 10:30.
