Vienna, 5 September 2026 - Westfield Shopping City Süd (SCS), Austria’s biggest shopping centre, located just south of Vienna, hosted the “Safety Day”, with an interactive family programme outside one of the entrances. The event included an information stand by the United Nations in Vienna, featuring the UN exhibition “Shared Lives, Shared Future” and offering visitors an insight into the important work of the United Nations in Vienna and around the world in different areas of safety and security, from fighting cybercrime to banning nuclear tests, from nuclear safety to peaceful uses of outer space and much more.
The exhibition “Shared Lives, Shared Future” presents stories from the world, highlighting the many ways in which the UN impacts our daily lives and the organization’s wide-ranging efforts to address global challenges and build a safer, more sustainable future for all. More information about the exhibition here.
Children also had great fun as they were able to create their own United Nations buttons at the stand. Through these fun and interactive activities children and their parents were able to learn about the various ways the UN contributes to make the world a safer and better place.
As well as the UN stand, visitors had the opportunity to explore real emergency response vehicles and witness demonstrations of modern drone technology. Local teams, including the SCS company fire brigade, police, and the Red Cross Lower Austria with their dog handler units, showed their daily safety operations through live demonstrations. Younger visitors could take part in different craft activities, have their faces painted, and use a dedicated photo booth, making the event an engaging and informative experience for the whole family.
Thank you to Westfield Shopping City Süd for inviting us to participate in the SCS Safety Day 2026 and to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) for their contributions. We also want to thank all the visitors for engaging with our information stand and making this event a great experience for all.
