Austria receives UN Public Service Award

19 Award winners from 14 countries will be honoured for their innovative projects in fighting poverty and promoting sustainable development.

VIENNA, 23 June (UN Information Service) - The United Nations Public Service Forum, Public Service Day and Public Service Awards Ceremony will honour the Federal Chancellery of the Republic of Austria for its project for implementing innovative solutions to improve public service delivery that helps promote sustainable development.

The Forum and Awards Ceremony will take place from 23 to 26 June 2014 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Public Service Award winners

The Award winners will be presented to delegations from around the globe during the high-level Awards Ceremony on 26 June. The theme for this year's global Forum is "Innovating Governance for Sustainable Development and Well-being of the People".

The winning project this year from Austria involves Open Government Data - Data.gv.at.

The Forum and Awards are hosted by the Government of the Republic of Korea and organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in partnership with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).

In 2003, the UN General Assembly designated 23 June as UN Public Service Day to celebrate the value and virtue of service to the community.
