It is an honour for me to welcome all of you to the 14th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
Crime prevention and criminal justice in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic
Comprehensive strategies for crime prevention towards social and economic development
Integrated approaches to challenges facing the criminal justice system
People everywhere want to be free from fear of all forms of crime and violence and feel safe as they go about their lives. Peaceful, just and inclusive societies are necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The interrelationship between the rule of law and development will be the focus on the fourteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice which takes place from 7 to 12 March 2021 in Kyoto, Japan.
The UN Crime Congress, hosted by the Government of Japan, brings together experts, policymakers and governments to discuss how to advance crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law: towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Some of the topics that will be discussed include cybercrime, access to justice, reducing reoffending, empowering communities to prevent crime and human trafficking.
