  New Permanent Representative of Argentina Presented Credentials

 VIENNA, 6 November (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Argentina to the United Nations (Vienna), Gustavo Eduardo Figueroa, presented his credentials on Thursday to Pino Arlacchi, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). 

 Prior to his current appointment, since 1998, Mr. Figueroa served as the President of the Council of Ambassadors in Argentina.

 Between 1993 and 1998, Mr. Figueroa was Ambassador to the Netherlands. In 1992 he served as Undersecretary of Institutional Relations, while the year before he was Director of Relations with North America at the Foreign Ministry in Argentina. Between 1985 and 1990 he was Ambassador to Norway.

 Mr. Figueroa began his diplomatic career in 1958 as Vice- Consul at the Argentinian Consulate in Hamburg, Germany. Since then he has served at Argentinian Embassies and Consulates in the Czech Republic, Austria, Chile, Brasil, and the United States of America. 

 In 1977 he was appointed Alternate Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, where he remained until 1981, when he became Consul in New York. 

 Mr. Figueroa holds a BA degree in International Relations from the University of Salvador. 

 He is married and has five children.
