NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF SWITZERLAND VIENNA, 11 September (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Observer of Switzerland to the United Nations (Vienna), Heinrich Reimann, presented his credentials on Tuesday to Pino Arlacchi, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Reimann was Ambassador to the Netherlands. He began his diplomatic career in 1970 in the Swiss Foreign Ministry. In 1972, he served in Bonn and from 1973 to 1977, he served in the Division for International Public Law. In 1977 he was transferred to Paris until 1980 as a Counsellor. In 1981, he became Head of the Section for International Public Law and later Deputy Director in 1984. In 1986, he became his country’s Ambassador to Iran and in 1984, Ambassador to Algeria, and, as of 1991, to Mauritania concurrently. In 1993, he was Commissioner of the International Conference for the Protection of War Victims. In the same year, he was appointed Director of the Political Division in the Foreign Ministry. Born in 1944 in Winterthur, Switzerland, he received a doctorate in law from the University of Zurich. * *** * |
