NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF CYPRUS
PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

VIENNA, 26 November (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the United Nations (Vienna), Stavros A. Epaminondas, presented his credentials on Monday to Pino Arlacchi, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Epaminondas was Director of Political Affairs Division (Bilateral Relations) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nicosia. Before that he served as Director of Economic Affairs Division of the Ministry from 1997 until 1999. He was High Commissioner of Cyprus to India and concurrently accredited to Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam between 1993 and 1997. In 1992-1993 Mr. Epaminondas served as Consul General of Cyprus in Thessaloniki, Greece, and between 1989 and 1992 he was Counsellor at the High Commission of Cyprus in London.

Mr. Epaminondas joined the Foreign Service of the Republic of Cyprus in 1979, as AttachJ at the European Community Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nicosia. From 1980 until 1985 he was First Secretary/Consul at the High Commission of Cyprus in Canberra, Australia. The following year he served at the Economic Affairs Division of the Ministry and between 1986 and 1989 at the Overseas Cypriots Division of the Ministry.

Mr. Epaminondas earned his degree in Public and Political Science from the Law Faculty of the University of Athens.

He is married, with two children.
