NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MAURITIUS
PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

VIENNA, 6 December (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Mauritius to the United Nations (Vienna), Jaynarain Meetoo, presented his credentials on Thursday to Pino Arlacchi, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Meetoo served as Education Officer at St. Mary’s College in Rose Hill. Between 1995 and 1996 he was Ambassador of the Republic of Mauritius in Paris. Before that he was Manager/Rector of the Mauritius Educational Development Co. Ltd. And between 1990 and 1994 he was Chairman of the Mauritius Institute of Education Council.

During 1988 and 1989 Mr. Meetoo was Mayor of the town of Quatre Bornes, and was a teacher of French and English in Upper Forms at Eden College in Rose Hill between 1980 and 1988, with a three year break during which he served as Rector of Eden College and as Member of the Commission of Inquiry on Education. He has began his career as a teacher of French and English in 1965 at Eden College.

Mr. Meetoo holds degrees from Académie d’Aix-Marseille, Université Francaise de l’Océan Indien and Royal College in Curepipe.

He is married with three children.
