PRESS STATEMENT ON "TERRORISM COMMITTEE" BY
PRESIDENT OF SECURITY COUNCIL

 

NEW YORK, 4 October (UN Headquarters) -- Following is today's statement by Security Council President Richard Ryan (Ireland) on the Committee set up to monitor Council resolution 1373 on terrorism:

Security Council members, meeting this morning in informal consultations, covered a number of items, including the Security Council Committee established under resolution 1373 on terrorism. As you will be aware, under article 6 of that resolution, the Council decided to set up a committee of the Security Council, consisting of the members of the Council, to monitor implementation of this resolution.

This morning, the members of the Security Council agreed to elect H.E. Sir Jeremy Greenstock, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, to the position of Chairman of the Committee. In addition, the following have been elected to the position of Vice-Chairmen: H.E. Alfonso Valdivieso, Permanent Representative of Colombia, H.E. Jagdish Koonjul, Permanent Representative of Mauritius, and H.E. Sergey Lavrov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation.
