SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS DYSANE ABDALLAH DORANI DIRECTOR OF UNITED NATIONS INFORMATION CENTRE IN CAIRO

NEW YORK, 3 August (UN Headquarters) -- Secretary-General Kofi Annan has appointed Mr. Dysane Dorani, a national of Djibouti, as Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Cairo, Egypt. Mr. Dorani assumed his duties on 1 August.

Prior to his new assignment, Mr. Dorani served as the Representative of the United Nations Department of Public Information in Baku, Azerbaijan, since 1997.

Before joining the United Nations Secretariat, Mr. Dorani worked in the service of his Government in a variety of positions, including as First Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Mission of Djibouti to the United Nations in New York. He has an institutional background in public information, as well as in the field of international politics, and has written and published articles on development and political issues in Africa, Asia, and the Arab world. He also lectured at the Polytechnical Institute of New York as well as at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research on Multilateral Affairs.

Mr. Dorani holds a PhD in social and economic development from the Sorbonne, Paris, and a Master’s Degree in Political Sciences from the University of Vincennes.

Mr. Dorani speaks Arabic, English and French. He is married and the father of three children.
