NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF LUXEMBOURG
PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

VIENNA, 17 October (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the United Nations (Vienna), Paul Faber, has presented his credentials on Thursday to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Mr. Faber is also his country’s Ambassador to Austria, Hungary and Slovenia, concurrently.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Faber served as Ambassador to San Marino (2001), to Italy and Malta (1998-2001), to Portugal (1993-1998) and as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (1986-1993).

Mr. Faber joined his country’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1971 as Deputy Director in the Protocol Office. From 1973 to 1976, he served in the Embassy of Luxembourg in Bonn. In 1976, he held the post of Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the European Community in Brussels. From 1976 to 1982, he served as Deputy Director of the Department for Political and Cultural Affairs in the Foreign Ministry. He was Deputy Head of Delegation to the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) Meetings in Belgrade (1977-1978) and in Madrid (1980-1982). In 1983, Mr. Faber held the position of Director for Protocol, Administration and Legal Affairs in the Foreign Ministry.

Born on 6 April 1943, Mr. Faber studied Law in Luxembourg, Aix-en-Provence and Paris and received his doctorate in law in 1967.

He is married with three children.
