NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GERMANY
PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

VIENNA, 10 December (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations (Vienna), Mr. Herbert Honsowitz, has presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Honsowitz served as Ambassador to Ethiopia (1999-2002). From 1992 to 1999 he served as Head of the OSCE Division in the German Foreign Ministry and from 1989 to 1992 as Director of the United Nations Information Service in Vienna. From 1986 to 1989 he served as Deputy Head of the United Nations Division of the German Foreign Ministry.

Mr. Honsowitz joined his country’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1974 and served as Press Officer at the German Embassy in Iran from 1978 to 1980, as Political Officer at the German Embassy in Israel from 1980 to 83 and as Political Officer in the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 1983 to 1986.

Born in 1944 in Marienbad, Mr. Honsowitz studied German Literature, History and Sociology at Tübingen University in Germany.

He is married with four children.
