BOOK ON CAPACITY FOR DEVELOPMENT
TO BE LAUNCHED ON 5 JULY

The book Capacity for Development: New Solutions to Old Problems will be presented at an event to be hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in conjunction with the current session of the Economic and Social Council on Friday, 5 July, at 2 p.m. in the Delegates’ Dining Room. All correspondents are invited to attend.

Offering innovative approaches to achieving lasting capacities for development, the book is essential reading for everyone interested in the upcoming World Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg, South Africa, 26 August - 4 September). The publication focuses on ownership, civic engagement and knowledge, and features contributions from eminent economists and development professionals, including Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz.

The question-and-answer session will be moderated by former anchor of CNN International, Riz Khan. A welcoming address is to be presented by Associate Administrator of UNDP Zephirin Diabre, and panellists will include the publication’s co-editors: Director of UNDP’s Human Development Report Office, Sakiko Fukuda-Parr; Director a.i., UNDP Bureau for Development Policy, Carlos Lopes; and Director of the UNDP Evaluation Office, Khalid Malik.
