Security Council Extends Mandate of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mission Until 30 June

NEW YORK, 21 June (UN Headquarters) -- The Security Council this afternoon extended the mandate for the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH), due to expire today, until 30 June.

Unanimously adopting resolution 1418 (2002), the Council decided that the provisions of its resolution 1357 (2001) should continue to be in force until that date. That resolution, adopted on 21 June 2001, had extended UNMIBH's mandate and authorized the continuation of the multinational stabilization force (SFOR) until today.

(For background information, see Press Release SC/7080 of 21 June 2001 and SC/7427 of 19 June 2002).

The meeting began at 1:21 p.m. and adjourned at 1:26 p.m.
