PRESS STATEMENT ON COUNCIL COUNTER-TERRORISM
COMMITTEE BY PRESIDENT OF SECURITY COUNCIL

NEW YORK, 30 September (UN Headquarters) -- Following is today’s press statement on the Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee by Stefan Tafrov (Bulgaria), President of the Security Council:

The members of the Security Council received a detailed briefing by the Chairman of the 1267 Committee [Counter-Terrorism Committee].

The members of the Security Council recalled the importance of the sanctions imposed under resolution 1390 against Usama Bin Laden, Al Qaeda and the Taliban and associated individuals and entities in the fight against international terrorism.

The members of the Security Council urged all States to fully implement resolution 1390 and, in particular, to complete submission of their reports to the 1267 Committee in accordance with paragraph 6 of that resolution.

The members of the Security Council reiterated their support for the work of the 1267 Committee and the monitoring group established by resolution 1363.

The members of the Security Council took note of the second report of the monitoring group. The members of the Council also reiterated the importance of cooperation by all States with the Counter-Terrorism Committee and with the sanctions committees.

The members of the Security Council also discussed suggestions in which the 1267 Committee and the Counter-Terrorism Committee could complement each other.
