SECRETARY-GENERAL EXPRESSES GRIEF AT
SENEGAL FERRY DISASTER

NEW YORK, 1 October (UN Headquarters) -- This statement was issued on 28 September by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the news that hundreds of people are feared drowned after a Senegalese passenger ferry capsized off the coast of the Gambia in a violent storm. He expresses his heartfelt condolences to the Government, families and friends of the victims.
