SECRETARY-GENERAL URGES DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE’S
REPUBLIC OF KOREA TO FULLY COOPERATE
WITH ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY

NEW YORK, 30 December (UN Headquarters) -- The following statement was issued Friday, 27 December, by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General expresses his concern over the increasing tensions in the Korean Peninsula.

He urges the Government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and not to undertake actions that could further complicate matters.

The Secretary-General calls on all parties concerned to make every effort to resolve the situation in accordance with international norms.
