New Permanent Representative of Tajikistan Presents Credentials
VIENNA, 4 March (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations (Vienna), Erkin Sadriddinovich Kasimov, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).
Prior to his current assignment, he served as First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (2001-2003).
Mr. Kasimov started his diplomatic career in 1974 as First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic where he held the posts of Acting Senior Advisor (1980-1981), First Secretary (1981-1982) and Head of Protocol and Consulate (1982-1989).
From 1989 to 1993, Mr. Kasimov was Vice Consul at the General Consulate of the USSR in Basra, Iraq. From 1993 to 2001, he was Head of International Organizations at his country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Born on 19 May 1951 in Tajikistan, he graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Languages at the Tajik State University.
He is married, with two daughters.
