NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF AFGHANISTAN
PRESENTS CREDENTIALS
VIENNA, 3 July (UN Information Centre) -- The new Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations (Vienna), Zia U. Nezam, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna.
Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Nezam served as a member of the Afghan Legal Affairs Working Group from 2002. From 1996 to 2002, he was teaching in different language and legal centres. From 1988 to 1996, he worked as a financial consultant at the Noble Wealth Corporation.
From 1981 to 1988, Mr. Nezam served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul. He was Director, Legal Department (1986-1988); Deputy Director, Legal Department (1984-1986); a member of the United Nations Department (1981-1984). He also served as Counsellor in the Legal Department, Ministry of Justice, in Kabul (1978-1981).
Mr. Nezam has published numerous articles dealing with Afghanistan, as well as international and legal themes.
Born on 6 October 1947 in Kabul, Afghanistan, he pursued his higher studies at Nice University in France. He received a B.A. in Public Law in 1972, an M.A. in Development Law in 1973, an M.A. in Constitutional Law in 1974, and a Doctorate in International Law in 1977.
He is married and has two sons.
