SECURITY COUNCIL LIBERIA TIMBER BAN
COMES INTO FORCE
NEW YORK, 7 July (Department of Political Affairs) -- The President of the Security Council wishes to inform Member States that the measures contained in paragraph 17 of Security Council resolution 1478 (2003), adopted on 6 May 2003 (ban against the import of all round logs and timber products originating in Liberia), came into force at 00:01 eastern daylight time today.
The President of the Council wishes to note, as provided for in paragraph 18 of the resolution, that the Council will consider by 7 September 2003 how best to minimize any humanitarian or socio-economic impact of these measures.
The President of the Council wishes to remind all Member States of their obligations pertaining to the above measures.
