PRESS STATEMENT ON KOSOVO BY
SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT
NEW YORK, 8 August (UN Headquarters) -- The following press statement on Kosovo was delivered today by Security Council President Mikhail Wehbe (Syria):
Members of the Security Council strongly condemned the murder of Major Satish Menon of the United Nations Interim Administration in Kosovo (UNMIK) Police, who was killed on 3 August while on duty in the northern part of Kosovo.
Members of the Security Council expressed their condolences to the family of Major Menon and to the Government of India.
Members of the Security Council reaffirmed the joint efforts of the international community to build a better future for Kosovo. They underlined that UNMIK Police and the Kosovo Police Service have an important role in this effort and in contributing to guarantee security and the rule of law.
Members of the Security Council appealed to all concerned to fully cooperate with UNMIK and the international security presence to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
