COUP D’ÉTAT IN GUINEA-BISSAU

NEW YORK, 15 September (UN Headquarters) -- The following statement was issued on 14 September by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General condemns the coup d’état in Guinea-Bissau and calls for the restoration of constitutional order. He further calls on the parties concerned not to resort to any acts of violence or retribution and urges that every effort be made to ensure the safety and security of all.
