Security Council Adopts Annual Report to General Assembly for Period 1 August 2003 – 31 July 2004

NEW YORK, 29 September (UN Headquarters) -- The Security Council, this morning, adopted its annual report to the General Assembly for the period 1 August 2003 to 31 July 2004.

The annual report to the General Assembly, which is required by Article 24, paragraph 3 of the United Nations Charter, was adopted as corrected.

In introductory remarks, the Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Tuliameni Kalomoh, said the annual report had been prepared by the Secretariat in line with the revised format agreed upon by the Council in 2002.  The draft report’s format provided a guide to Council’s activities in a concise manner.  It was the third report prepared in accordance with the President’s Note of 22 May 2002 (document S/2002/199), which was aimed at enhancing the quality of the report.  Of particular interest was the introduction, which contained an analytical summary of the Council’s work. A corrigendum containing changes was also before the Council.

The meeting began at 10:15 a.m. and adjourned at 10:20 a.m.
