New Permanent Representative of Italy Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 25 February (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Gabriele de Ceglie, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. de Ceglie served as Ambassador to Pakistan. Between 1994 and 2000 he served at the Department of Personnel at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome, from 1992 to 1994 he was Minister Counsellor of the Italian Embassy in Tokyo, and from 1989 to 1992 he was Consul General of Italy in London.

Mr. de Ceglie joined the diplomatic service in 1968 at the Department of Personnel at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome. Since then he had held several posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as abroad.

Mr. de Ceglie was on secondment from the Italian government at the Legal Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome from 1983 to 1987, and at the Legal Office of the United Nations Secretariat in New York from 1973 to 1975.

Mr. de Cegile earned a Law Degree at the University of Bari, Italy, and a Masters Degree with specialization in International Law at the University of New York, USA.
