New Permanent Representative of Honduras Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 11 October (UN Information Service) -- The New Permanent Representative of Honduras to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Jose Benjamin Zapata, presented his credentials today to Franz Baumann, Deputy Director-General, UNOV.

Mr. Zapata will also be concurrently serving as Ambassador to the United Nations agencies in Geneva, Switzerland, and will be based there.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Zapata was serving at the Embassy of Honduras in Washington, D.C. (since 1989). During his 13-year tenure, he was promoted to Minister Counsellor for Economic Affairs and finally, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission.

Prior to that, he served progressively as Economic Attaché covering all Benelux countries; Economic and Commercial Counsellor and then Counsellor, at the Embassy of the Honduras in Belgium.

Mr. Zapata completed his Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He is married and has two children.
