New Permanent Representative of Turkey Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 10 December (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ahmet Ertay, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Ertay was serving as the Deputy Under Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Turkey.

Mr. Ertay has served in a variety of functions in the course of his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These include as Chief Legal Adviser (2001-03); Member of the Board of Inspectors (2000-01); Minister, Head of Personnel Department (1993-96); Head of Department of Administrative and Financial Affairs (1992-93); Head of Section and Deputy Head of Department in Administrative and Financial Affairs Department (1986-88); Head of Section, Personnel Department (1980-82).

Mr. Ertay has also served in other functions including as Ambassador to Kuwait (1996-2000); Consul General, Stuttgart, Germany (1988-92) and Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Bonn, Germany (1982-86).

Mr. Ertay completed his Bachelors Degree in Political Science from the University of Ankara. He is married and has two children.
