New Permanent Representative of Mauritius Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 10 December (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Mauritius to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Shree Baboo Chekitan Servansing, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Servansing was serving as Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Regional Co-operation (2003-04).

Mr. Servansing has served in a variety of functions in the course of his professional career. These include as Minister Counsellor, Head of Multilateral Economic Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Co-operation (2001-03); Minister Counsellor, Deputy Head of Mission, Mauritius Embassy, Brussels (2000–01); and as Acting Minister Counsellor, Mauritius Embassy, Brussels (1996 – 2000).

Mr. Servansing also served as First Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1992-96); Second Secretary Mauritius High Commission, New Delhi, India (1988-92); Second Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1988) and as Administrative Officer, Mahatma Gandhi Institute (1981-88).

Mr. Servansing completed his Masters in Sociological Studies at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom and received a Postgraduate Diploma in Foreign Affairs and International Trade at the Australian National University. He is married and has two children.
