Security Council Press Statement on Democratic Republic of Congo

NEW YORK, 26 April (UN Headquarters) --  Following is the press statement on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, delivered today by Security Council President Wang Guangya (China):

Members of the Council heard a briefing from Mr. Guéhenno on recent political developments in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the Transition is entering a key phase;

The possibility for the Council to send a number of its Ambassadors on a mission to Kinshasa was discussed; a decision on this matter would be taken at a later stage, when the Council deems it appropriate;

Members of the Council encouraged the Congolese parties to carry through their political process in full respect of the principles set out in the Global and All-inclusive Agreement;

The Security Council remains committed to support this process, including through its strong support for the action of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and of the International Committee in Support of the Transition (CIAT) in Kinshasa.
