Security Council Press Statement on Lebanon
NEW YORK, 12 July (UN Headquarters) -- Following is the Security Council press statement on Lebanon, delivered today by Council President Adamantios Th. Vassilakis (Greece):
The members of the Security Council unequivocally condemned the terrorist bombing in Lebanon today that killed one person north of Beirut and wounded several others, including Lebanon’s Defence Minister, Elias Al-Murr.
The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the people and Government of Lebanon and to the victims and their families. They conveyed to those wounded their best wishes for a speedy recovery.
The members of the Security Council welcomed the determination of the Government of Lebanon to bring to justice the perpetrators, organizers and sponsors of this attack.
The members of the Security Council strongly condemned the continuation of political assassinations and other terrorist acts in Lebanon. They warned that those responsible for such acts will not be permitted to undermine the stability, national unity, full sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon.
The members of the Security Council expressed also their condemnation of today’s terrorist attack in the city of Natanya, Israel.
