Secretary-General Appoints Azouz Ennifar of Tunisia as Deputy Special Representative for Ethiopia, Eritrea
NEW YORK, 29 July (UN Headquarters) -- United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has appointed Azouz Ennifar of Tunisia as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE). He will be based in Addis Ababa.
Mr. Ennifar has a distinguished career with his country’s foreign service. Earlier this year, he completed a tour of duty in Kinshasa and Brazzaville as Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo with accreditation to the Republic of Congo in 2002. He also served as Ambassador to Indonesia, Brazil and Italy, and has worked in the Tunisian embassy in Paris as Chargé d’Affaires a.i. In 1994 he was appointed Ambassador to the United States, with accreditation to Mexico and Venezuela. Mr. Ennifar has also represented the Tunisian Government at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Earlier in his career, Mr. Ennifar worked with the Ministry of National Economy. He was also the Managing Director of the Export Promotion Centre, a Government institution shaping Tunisia’s foreign trade. He is a co-founder of the Association des Études Internationales, a non-profit organization involved in diplomatic studies.
Mr. Ennifar was born in Tunis on 30 April 1945. He studied in Tunis, Nice, and Paris and is married with three children.
