Secretary-General Congratulates Kuwait on “Historic Step” of Granting Women Right to Vote, Run for Parliament
NEW YORK, 16 May (UN Headquarters) -- The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
The Secretary-General welcomes the passing by Majlis al-Umma, Kuwait’s legislative body, of a law granting women for the first time the right to vote and run for parliament. The Secretary-General congratulates the people of Kuwait on this historic step.
