Secretary-General Dispatches Special Envoy to Meet With Syria’s President
NEW YORK, 6 June (UN Headquarters) -- The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
The Secretary-General has instructed his Special Envoy for the implementation of Security Council resolution 1559 (2004), Terje Roed-Larsen, to travel as soon as possible to Syria to meet with President Bashar Al-Assad. The Secretary-General expects that the United Nations and the Government of Syria will continue to work closely together to ensure the full implementation of Security Council resolution 1559.
