New Permanent Representative of Belarus Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 4 April (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Alyaksandr Sychov, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Sychov was serving as Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belarus (2000-05).

Mr. Sychov has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: The Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations in New York (1994-2000); Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belarus (1992-94); Head of the Foreign Economic Relations Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Belarus (1991-92) and at Belarus’ Permanent Mission to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Switzerland (1984-90).

He was also a member of the Bureau and the Chairman of the Sessional Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and served as the Chairman of the First Committee of the 51st session of the United Nations General Assembly, and of the 19th Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly (1988-90). He was also elected Vice-President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (1998-99).

Mr. Sychov graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and has a Masters Degree in Foreign Economic Relations. He is married and has two children.
