New Permanent Representative of Canada Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 25 October 2005 (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations (Vienna), Marie Gervais-Vidricaire, presented her credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna.

Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Gervais-Vidricaire was serving as Director General, Global Issues, at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ottawa (since 2001).

Ms. Gervais-Vidricaire has served in many capacities in the course of her career, including as: Minister and Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations (Geneva), (1998-2001); Director, Southern Europe Division, Department of Foreign Affairs (1996-98); Director, Cabinet Liaison Division, Department of Foreign Affairs (1996); Executive Director, Strategic Planning, National Unity Team, Privy Council Office (1994-95); and Minister Counsellor, Communication and Culture, Canadian Embassy in Paris (1991-93).

Ms. Gervais-Vidricaire completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism at the Laval University of Quebec. She obtained a Diploma of International Relations Studies from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques, Paris, and a Diplôme d'Etudes Approfindies from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris.

She is married and has two children.
