The World Health Organization (WHO) Office at the European Union and the
WHO Regional Office for Europe invite you at the press conference on the launch of

The World Health Report 2005 – Make Every Mother and Child Count

will present to the press the global and regional dimensions of the report and the situations in the countries of the WHO European Region where the economic conditions affect the health of women and children.

The report highlights the link between the poverty and maternal land child ill-health. This year almost 11 million children under five years of age will die from causes that are largely preventable. Among them are 4 million babies who will not survive the first month of life. At the same time, more than half a million women will die in pregnancy, childbirth or soon after. The situation of women and children poses health problems both in the poor and richer countries.
