Security Council Press Statement on Côte d'Ivoire
NEW YORK, 26 July (UN Headquarters) -- The following Security Council press statement on Côte d'Ivoire was delivered today by Council President Jean-Marc de La Sablière (France):
The members of the Council heard a briefing by the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Abou Moussa, and by the High Representative for the Elections, Gérard Stoudmann, on the situation in Côte d'Ivoire.
They expressed their full support for the Prime Minister and encouraged him to continue to implement the roadmap and the agreement signed by all Ivorian parties in Yamoussoukro on 5 July.
They also condemned firmly the obstacles put to the normal functioning of the mobile courts, and the violence committed recently, including the attack against the High Representative for the Elections.
The members of the Council decided to seize the sanctions committee.
They will work shortly on a presidential statement in order, in particular to take stock of the implementation of the road map and the Yamoussoukro III agreement, and of the responsibilities of those who block the process, including the Ivorian defence and security forces.
