Secretary-General Greatly Concerned at Loss of Life from Oil Pipeline Explosion in Nigeria
NEW YORK, 12 May (UN Headquarters) -- The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
The Secretary-General has learned with great concern of the loss of life which occurred today when an oil pipeline exploded in the village of Ilado, near Nigeria's commercial capital, Lagos. He sends his condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Nigeria. The United Nations stands ready to offer any support requested by the Government in the aftermath of this tragic incident.
