New Permanent Representative of Portugal Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 26 April (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Portugal to the United Nations (Vienna), Joaquim Duarte, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Duarte was serving as Permanent Representative of Portugal to the Council of Europe from 2005.

Mr. Duarte has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as Director General, Strategic and Defence Intelligence Service (2002), Ambassador of Portugal to the Russian Federation (2001 - 02), Norway (1997) and Argentina (1992), and Deputy Director-General of Political and Economic Affairs (1990). 

Mr. Duarte holds a degree in Law from the University of Lisbon and a degree in International Law from the Free University of Brussels.
