VIENNA, 2 July (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations (Vienna), Gail Mathurin, presented her credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).
Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Mathurin was serving as Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) and Ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) (since 2006).
Ms. Mathurin has served in many capacities in the course of her career, including as: High Commissioner of Jamaica to the United Kingdom, Non-resident Ambassador to Denmark, Finland, Norway and Spain (2005 - 06); Under-Secretary, Foreign Trade Division, Ambassador for External Negotiations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Non-resident Ambassador to Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay (2002 - 05); and Senior Director, Foreign Trade Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (1998 - 2002).
Ms. Mathurin holds a degree in Sociology and History and a Diploma in Mass Communications from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica.
