New Permanent Representative of United Kingdom Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 7 September (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the United Nations (Vienna), Simon Smith, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Smith was serving as Director at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (since 2005).

Mr. Smith has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Head of Eastern Department, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (2004 - 2005), Head of North Eastern Asia and Pacific Department, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (2002 - 2004), and Counsellor, British Embassy, Moscow (1998 - 2002).

Mr. Smith holds a degree in Modern Languages form Oxford University. He is married and has two children.
