New Permanent Representative of Lebanon Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 13 September (UN Information Service) -- The new Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the United Nations (Vienna), Ishaya El-Khoury, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. El-Khoury was serving as Director, Administrative and Financial Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon (since 2003).

Mr. El-Khoury has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Ambassador of Lebanon to Brazil (1999 - 2003), Counsellor, Lebanese Embassy, Brussels, and Alternate Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the European Commission (1996 - 99), Counsellor, Lebanese Embassy, Bonn (1994 - 96), Head, American Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon (1992 - 94), Secretary, Lebanese Embassy, Vienna, and Alternate Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the international organizations in Vienna (1988 - 92), Secretary, Department of Lebanese Interests, French Embassy, Cairo (1983 - 88), and Chief of Cabinet of the Secretary-General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lebanon (1981 - 83).

Mr. El-Khoury holds a Master's degree in Public Law as well as a degree in Law Studies and a degree in Political and Administrative Science from Lebanese University, Lebanon. He is married and has two children.
