New Permanent Observer of the European Commission Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 19 October (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Observer of the Delegation of the European Commission to the United Nations (Vienna), Lars-Erik Lundin, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Lundin was serving as Deputy Political Director, European Commission, and Head of the Security Policy Unit, Directorate General for External Relations, European Commission (DG RELEX) since 2006.

Mr. Lundin has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Director a.i. Common Foreign and Security Policy, DG RELEX, European Commission (2005 - 06), Head, Security Policy Unit, DG RELEX, European Commission (2000 - 05), Head, European Commission Delegation to the International Organisations in Vienna (1996 - 2000), Ambassador, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Stockholm (1996), Assistant Under-Secretary for OSCE, Council of Europe, NATO/Partnership for Peace, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Stockholm (1994 - 96), Head of Division for CSCE and Council of Europe affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Stockholm (1992 - 1994), Counsellor, Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Stockholm, (1990 - 91), First Secretary, Political affairs, Swedish Embassy, Bonn (1986 - 1989) and First Secretary, Swedish delegation to the CSCE Conference on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures and Disarmament in Europe, Stockholm (1983 - 1986).

Mr. Lundin holds a doctoral degree in Political Science from University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He is married and has three children.
