Accreditation to the 7th Global Forum on Reinventing Government to be held in Vienna (26-29 June 2007)
VIENNA, 21 May (UN Information Service) - The 7th Global Forum on Reinventing Government will be held at the Austria Center Vienna from 26-29 June 2007. Organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the support of the Governments of Austria, France, Italy and the Republic of Korea, this event is expected to receive several thousand senior government officials, NGOs and private sector representatives from around the world, as well as Heads of State and Government.
The Global Forum on Reinventing Government began in 1999 and is part of an on-going effort by the United Nations and its members to improve the quality of governance and public administration worldwide. The first Global Forum was held in Washington D.C. and since then, the conference has become one of the leading international conferences promoting public sector development. The Forum has been hosted by Governments in the past and it will be hosted by the United Nations for the first time in Vienna.
H.E. Dr. Heinz Fischer, Federal President of Austria, will deliver the welcome address. In the course of four days, participants will attend plenary sessions, workshops, side events and discussions, which will lead to the emergence of the Vienna Declaration. The speakers at the Forum include Ursula Plassnik, Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs; Mary Robinson, Executive Director, Ethical Globalization Initiative and former President of Ireland; Vicente Fox Quesada, former President of Mexico; Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime; and José Antonio Ocampo, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs.
Media representatives are required to apply for accreditation by completing the application form, which is available on the 7th Global Forum website: http://www.7thglobalforum.org
Kindly complete the application form and submit it via email, mail or fax together with a copy of your press card and a letter of assignment, issued on an official letterhead and signed by your Editor or Bureau Chief. Please submit your application documents latest by 20 June 2007. Accreditations will also be issued at the Forum venue; however, prior application is strongly recommended to avoid delays.
