New Permanent Representative of Albania Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 15 January (UN Information Service) -- The New Permanent Representative of Albania to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Gilbert Galanxhi, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Galanxhi was serving as Chief of Cabinet and Senior Project Analyst, Police Assistance Mission of the European Community to Albania (PAMECA), Tirana (since 2002) and part-time teacher of English language, Lincoln College, Tirana (since 1999).

Mr. Galanxhi has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Chief of Cabinet, European Commission Police Assistance Mission (ECPA), Tirana (2001 - 02), Member, Senior Management Training Unit, Multinational Advisory Police Element Mission (MAPE), Tirana (2000 - 01), Coordinator with Albanian Government Authorities, UNHCR (1998 - 99), Chargé d'Affaires a.i. and Political Counselor, Embassy of Albania in Buenos Aires, Argentina (1997 - 98), Chief, Press and Information Department, and Spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affaires (1995 - 97), Deputy Chief, International Relations Department, Democratic Party of Albania (1994), Teacher of English language, Sami Frasheri high school (1992 - 93), Coordinator, European Baptist Federation, Tirana Office (1991 - 92), Headmaster, High school of Darshen (1989 - 91), Teacher of English language, High school of Darshen (1986 - 89).

Mr. Galanxhi holds a degree from the Faculty of History and Philology from the University of Tirana, a certificate of Intensive Training Course on International Relations and Diplomacy from the Swiss International Institute, Geneva and a certificate of Intensive Training Course on International Relations and Diplomacy from the Foreign Service Institute of the State Department, Washington D.C.

He is married and has two children.
