New Permanent Representative of Latvia Presents Credentials
VIENNA, 15 January (UN Information Service) -- The New Permanent Representative of Latvia to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Nils Jansons, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Jansons was serving as Deputy Political Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Latvia (since 2007).
Mr. Jansons has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Deputy Permanent Representative of Latvia, North Atlantic Council (2004 - 06), Counselor and Deputy Head, Mission of Latvia to NATO, Brussels, Belgium (2003), Director, Security Policy Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2001 - 03), Head, Security Policy Division, Ministry of Foreign Affaires, (1998 - 99), Second Secretary, Embassy of Latvia, Brussels, Belgium, (1995 - 98), Desk Officer, International Organizations Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1993 - 94), Engineer, Institute of Physics, Latvian Academy of Sciences (1990 - 91).
Mr. Jansons holds a degree from the Faculty of Physical Engineering, Leningrad Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics.
He is married and has a child.
