New Permanent Representative of Venezuela Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 3 March (UN Information Service) -- The New Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Alí de Jesús Uzcátegui Duque, presented his credentials today to Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, UNOV.

In the course of his career, Mr. Uzcátegui Duque has served in many capacities, including as: Chief, Department for Contracts and Tenders, Administration Office of the Army; Second and First Commander, Military Police Regiment of the Army; Second in Command, Casa Militar of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela; Director, Basic Training Centre for Officers of the National Armed Forces, State of Aragua; Director-General, Section of the Military Intelligence Service, Ministry of Defence; Commander, 5 th Infantry Division, State of Bolivar; Inspector-General of the Army; Chief of the General Staff and 2 nd Commander of the Army; Commander, Unified Commando of the National Armed Forces and Secretary-General, Defence Council of the Nation.

Mr. Uzcátegui Duque entered into retirement in 2007 due to his years of service, with the rank of Division Commanding General.

Mr. Uzcátegui Duque holds a Master's degree in Security and Defence from the Institute of National Higher Defence Studies and a degree in Military Science and Arts from the Military Academy of Venezuela.

He is married and has three children.
