New Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 14 May (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations (Vienna), H.E. Mr. Musthafa Mohamed Jaffeer, presented his credentials today to Mr. Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Jaffeer was serving as Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka (since 2006).

Mr. Jaffeer has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Ambassador to Viet Nam (2003 - 06), Director, United Nations and Multilateral Affairs, Human Rights and Conference Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka (2001 - 02), Minister Councillor, Embassy of Sri Lanka, Beijing, China (1997 - 2001), Deputy Director, East Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka (1996 - 97), Fellow, Monash University, Australia (1995 - 96), Deputy Director, West Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka (1995 - 96), Second Secretary, Sri Lanka High Commission, London, United Kingdom (1991 - 94), Third Secretary, Sri Lanka High Commission, New Delhi, India (1990 - 91) and Assistant Director, Economic Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka (1988 - 90).

Mr. Jaffeer holds a Master's degree in International Relations on Trade from Monash University, Australia, and a degree in Commerce from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.

He is married with 2 children.
