New Permanent Representative of Republic of Korea
Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 6 June (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations (Vienna), H. E. Mr. Shim Yoon-joe, presented his credentials today to Mr. Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Shim was serving as Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea (since 2006).

Mr. Shim has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Advisor for International Relations, Incheon Metropolitan Government, Republic of Korea (2006), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Portugal (2004 - 06), Senior Research Officer, Department of American Studies, Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Republic of Korea (2003 - 04), Director-General, North American Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2002 - 03), Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Office of the President (2001 - 02), Counsellor, Korean Embassy, United States (1998 - 2001), Director for Personnel, Office of Planning and Management, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1997 - 98), Aide to the Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1996 - 97), Director, Northeast Asia Division I, Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1995 - 96), Assistant Secretary, Office of the President (1994 - 95), First Secretary, Korean Embassy, Japan (1991 - 94), and Consul, Korean Consulate General, Chicago, United States (1983 - 91).

Mr. Shim holds a degree from the Department of International Relations, Seoul National University, Republic of Korea.

He is married with 2 children.
