New Permanent Representative of Ecuador Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 12 September (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations (Vienna), H.E. Mr. Diego Stacey Moreno presented his credentials today to Mr. Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Stacey Moreno served as Under-Secretary of State for Bilateral Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador, a post which he assumed in 2008.

Mr. Stacey Moreno has served in many capacities in the course of his career, among them: Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs (on various occasions 2007), Under-Secretary of State for National Sovereignty and Border Development (2004-07), Under-Secretary of State for Administrative and Financial Affairs (2004), Executive Director, Ecuadorian Institute for International Cooperation (2004), General Director for Human Resources, Social and Environmental Affairs (2003), Ambassador to Sweden accredited to Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Norway (2000-03), Minister, Embassy in Washington, D.C., United States (1999-2000), Minister, Embassy in Bonn, Germany (1989-94), General Director for Territorial Sovereignty (1989), Director of Personnel (1988), Ceremony Director (1988), Head of the Minister's Office (1988), Deputy Director of Studies, Diplomatic Academy (1987), Head of Office, Under-Secretary of State for Economic Affairs (1987), Head of Office, Under-Secretary of State for Administrative Matters (1986), First Secretary, Embassy to the Holy See (1984-85), First Secretary, Consul, General Consulate in Hamburg, Germany (1983-84), Second Secretary, Embassy in Egypt (1982-83) and Second Secretary, Embassy in Colombia, (1979-81).

Mr. Stacey Moreno holds a doctoral degree in Law. He speaks Spanish, English, German and Italian.

Mr. Stacey Moreno is married and has four children.
