New Permanent Representative of Afghanistan Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 6 March (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations (Vienna), H. E. Mr. Abdul M. Shoogufan presented his credentials today to Mr. Antonio Maria Costa, Director-General, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

Mr. Shoogufan is also serving as Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to other international organizations in Vienna, posts which he assumed in 2008.

Mr. Shoogufan has served in many capacities in the course of his career, among them: Counsellor, Embassy of Afghanistan to India (2003-08), Director, UN and International Conferences Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kabul (1991-94), First Secretary, Embassy to the United Kingdom (1988-90) and First Secretary, Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to Switzerland (1987-88).

Mr. Shoogufan holds a doctoral and Master's degree in Law from Delhi University, New Delhi, India; an International Diploma in Educational Planning and Administration from the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi; a Diploma in International Law and Diplomacy from the Indian Academy of International Law and Diplomacy, New Delhi; and a Bachelor's degree in Law from Kabul University, Afghanistan.

Mr. Shoogufan is married and has three children.
